Cafe Luxy is well known for its varied pasta
dishes and their rather large servings (think of it as Stephos for the pasta set).
But it also serves up a tasty brunch (only one
of us in our party were aware of this fact).
We all did eggs in a variety of styles.
Two did omelettes, one did the Benny special of the day and the fourth did a
"scramble".
All were served hot and as requested (one of
our diners asked for no tomatoes and two requested "dry" toast). Given we
were all very hungry, the wait was mercifully short despite no seats were empty
in the restaurant. Choices are white or whole wheat toast and the plate
comes un-garnished with cubed hash browns.
The scramble was more of a flat omelette than
scrambled eggs but that didn't take away from the flavour with a nice mix of
feta, spinach and sundried tomatoes. The Benny was nicely prepared and
the two omelettes were tasty.
The hash browns (a big factor at any brunch as
anyone knows from previous reviews here) were nicely seasoned and browned.
Unfortunately some of the rather large potato cubes meant they were not
consistent in their doneness - some were not cooked all the way through while
others were overdone.
All-in-all a nice brunch for a place that is
noted for its pasta (you can still get pasta for the brunch if you prefer).
It has been a while since we took in this
Davie Village favourite so it is about time to go back and see how the pasta is
doing at dinner!
